The winds of change and dawning of a new era of my life are represented in the blog site name: MaestraEos. The goddess of dawn brings change and fresh new beginnings. Don’t worry… I don’t believe I am Eos… Rather, it is this time of my life that she represents. The spirit of change and newness is all around me. I’m open to its influence.
Me? I am the youngest of eight children. I was raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles, thanks to my older brothers who -through higher education- brought my single mother out of East Los Angeles to a safer neighborhood. I did spend my elementary years in a high-needs school.
I’m a single mom of amazing children.
I worked as a Resource Specialist at MetWest High School for the past two years. Before that I held various administrative assistant positions, owned a small business, and enjoyed two summers of teaching English in Czech Republic. In between those summers I taught 7th grade in a small private school.
My passion for becoming an educator was sparked while taking classes in Special Ed and Policy Studies at SDSU. My invitation to the Oakland Teaching Fellows program was the opportunity to jump right in to teaching while earning my preliminary credential.
I hoped to share with you some of my thoughts, experiences, etc. of my new life as teacher at Oakland Unified School District, but I was extremely busy for those initial two years. My ultimate goal is to bring awareness of the state of education. I desire to make a difference in the lives I am privileged to interact with in the classroom and ultimately to bring change to education in California and beyond. There is a better way. I may not have the answer today, but I am searching for it…
Wisdom comes with age. I hope that you find what you are looking for.
Good luck with your fellowship!
